  • This is dancing, not stomping: Instead of randomly assigning buttons to beats – which leads to boring plodding – choreographers arranged the dances to the song first. Only then are steps assigned to arrows on the mat, so players move like they would on an actual dance floor.
  • The freedom of a five-button mat: Pump it Up: Exceed transforms the genre and rewards players for freestyle exploration. It’s not just where you put your feet, but how they get there.
  • A dance mode for everyone: Home, Sudden Death and Tutorial modes mean there’s a style and intensity for all levels of players. Rankings in Arcade and Survival modes turn the dance floor into a beat-breaking battleground.
  • Roughly 100 thumping tunes with everything from rock to house to latin to pop: Pump it Up: Exceed features hits by Grammy nominees The Crystal Method and Steriogram, as well as Earth Wind and Fire, Sugarhill Gang and more – including unlockable tracks and music videos.


  • Songs - The Xbox features 97 songs. However, more songs will be available later for Xbox version via Xbox Live download.
  • Difficulty Levels - There are 5 levels. NORMAL, HARD, CRAZY, FREESTYLE, and NIGHTMARE. Note: FREESTYLE and NIGHTMARE are one player, two mat modes. Two Player Mode is available in NORMAL, HARD, and CRAZY.
  • Modifiers - Modifiers allow you to change how the game is played. There are twelve kinds of modifiers including hidden modifiers.Example of Modifiers:
    • Velocity (Arrow speed will increase by 2, 3, 4 or 8 times.)
    • Mirror (Arrows are displayed backwards. It will be useful, if you are performing with your back to the screen for an audience.)
    • Vanish (Arrows will disappear halfway up the screen.).
  • Unlock System - Some songs, modes and modifiers are either locked or hidden.

  • Internet Rankings: Do well in the game and you get a 16 digit code so you can register the score online and compete with players all over the world.
  • Bigger Music Selection: PIU features more music and a wider selection of music to choose from than other dance games. Included are popular dance tracks from Grammy nominees Crystal Method and Steriogram, Elvis vs Junkie XL, Sugarhill Gang and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Additionally, there is a large selection of K-Pop (Korean Pop) songs featuring well-known Korean acts like BoA and CLON, Latin music, and music from the Pump It Up 'house' band, Banya.
  • The game offers one player, one mat modes, two players two mat modes, and uniquely, one player two mat modes.
  • Xbox Live - Download contents will become available through Xbox Live. Schedule will be announced. Download Contents:
    • Step Editor: The editor will make you edit songs in the game or create steps of songs you own. It will be free to download.
    • New Songs: Once you download songs, you will be able to play them just like other songs in the game in Custom Mode. Songs will not be free to download.
